Look, we all know that no matter how hard we feel we work, there’s still not enough done in a day. So, anything we can do to get an edge is worth it.
And I’m here to share with you something that can make that happen.
I’m not being clickbait here: this is a simple thing you can do to increase your workflow on a scale that, after a few weeks, will seem monumental.
It could very well change your life.
So, here’s what you do: you handle the little things. That thing that takes five minutes, or less, that’s been sitting in the corner. The thing you swear you’ll get done next time, that you just don’t have time for right now.
Obliterate those little tasks.
Answer that email: just send a quick reply. Throw away the tiny pile of accumulating trash. Check that statistic now, don’t let it linger in your mind.
They are making you slower at your main task.
Because stuff hanging in the mind is dragging you down. If you are doing an activity, any activity, and you have something niggling at your attention, then it is affecting literally everything you’re doing until it’s done.
I don’t care if you feel like you should just worry about it later, that you can shove it out of your mind to focus on the now: you are not actually focusing. No matter what you do, the little piles of needed tasks are taking up mental space and making you less able to do as much as you can.
So handle it. Make a list of the tiny things “beneath you” and go do that. Or get someone to do it for you, right now.
Being able to focus means being able to get into the zone. And you know how effective you can be, don’t you? Why wouldn’t you do all you can to make that happen?
So, get the little things done now. You’ll thank yourself for it.
